Waack: Trump ends war without declaring victory

It cost almost $100 billion and half of the United States' modern arsenal to return the Strait of Hormuz to what it was before the war against Iran. In other words, free for navigation.

A war that started more than 100 days ago at the insistence, above all, of Israel to overthrow the repulsive regime of the ayatollahs, end their military capacity, prevent Iran from reaching nuclear weapons and redesign the entire Middle East in favor of Israel and the United States.

After these 100 days, US$ 100 billion and thousands of attacks what we have is: the brutal and bloodthirsty Iranian regime in the same place, now able to export oil in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Leaving what will happen with their nuclear programs and the mess that has been created for later, Israel and the United States now disagree about what to do. Countries in the region have lost confidence in the American protective umbrella.

China and Russia watched as the super power failed to bend a militarily very inferior country, but without a doubt the reopening of the Strait is great good news...for the rest of the world. Iran lost a lot. Israel, in the sense of unachieved goals, too.

While American President Donald Trump, by disrespecting the basics of strategy and geopolitics, committed one of the biggest mistakes in the recent history of American foreign policy. However, it's a price you won't pay alone.
