Waack: In politics and the World Cup, Trump attacks judges and changes rules

There is a dispute about which is worse.

There is a strong irony in all of this, as Trump decided to defend a player who, if the president's anti-immigration policy were not blocked by the Supreme Court, would not even be an American.

The worst of them has to do with Trump himself. It is a strict rule in FIFA and regional federations that a red card causes the expelled player to be suspended. But what Trump is most dedicated to is ignoring or fighting against rules, and determining the rules himself, which he changes as and when he wants.

Imagine if Trump would care about the rules of FIFA, which invented a peace prize to kiss his ass.

All of this is highly corrosive for those who govern. Be it a sport, like FIFA. Or a country, like Trump. The thing is, when it comes to corruption, neither of them have the benefit of the doubt anymore.
