Vorcaro spends first night at Papudinha after STF orders transfer
After having two plea bargains denied and changing lawyers, former banker Daniel Vorcaro was transferred from the superintendence of the PF (Federal Police) to the 19th Military Police Battalion in the Federal District, known as Papudinha. The former owner of Banco Master arrived at the location on Thursday night (25) and spent the first night in the new cell, where he must remain imprisoned while the defense evaluates the possibility of a new cooperation agreement with the authorities.
The owner of the former Banco Master was detained in a special Federal Police cell, pending approval of a plea bargain agreement. However, the most recent proposal was rejected by both the police force and the PGR (Attorney General's Office). The first attempt at collaboration was also rejected by the PF.
In a decision, Minister André Mendonça, rapporteur of the Master case processes at the STF (Supreme Federal Court, determined that the DF Military Police adopt the necessary measures to prevent Vorcaro's contact with others investigated in the Master case who are also in the battalion complex, including the former president of the Bank of Brasília Paulo Henrique Costa.
The judge also claimed that the former banker's stay at the Federal Police Superintendency was no longer appropriate. Mendonça stated that the rejection of the plea bargain did not affect the change.
"The imposition of the measure is absolutely dissociated from any situation related to the existence, or not, of negotiations aimed at the eventual conclusion of a plea bargain agreement", he declared. The decision responded to a request from the PF, which had requested the ex-banker leave the corporation's facilities.
The so-called "Papudinha" is a building located in the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, in Brasília. The space has a more controlled environment than other areas of the complex and usually receives prisoners entitled to special imprisonment, such as military police officers. It also houses authorities who, for security reasons, cannot stay with ordinary inmates.
