Vorcaro paid up to R$2 million for influencers to attack the Central Bank
Former banker Daniel Vorcaro, owner of the extinct Banco Master, sent payments of up to R$2 million to digital influencers to attack the BC (Central Bank) on social media, according to an investigation by the PF (Federal Police).
The 10th phase of Operation Compliance Zero, carried out last Thursday (9) and authorized by Minister André Mendonça, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), investigated signs of coordinated action on social networks aimed, in theory, at compromising the credibility of the actions of the BC, the institution that determined the liquidation of Master in November last year.
The magistrate issued two search and seizure warrants in Brasília. In the determination, Mendonça highlights that investigators pointed out that Vorcaro used funds from the liquidated bank's fraud to carry out a disinformation campaign in the media, called "Project DV".
According to PF investigations, Vorcaro had intimidated and coerced influencers who refused the offers. Furthermore, journalists and people linked to public authorities were also illegally monitored,
The operation also analyzed the actions of a possible criminal organization to improperly obtain confidential information and adopt measures designed to interfere in criminal investigations.
Targets of the operation
According to CNN Brasil, one of the targets of the PF operation was Thiago Miranda, owner of Miranda Comunicação, also known as Agência MiThi. In the decision, the search and seizure at addresses linked to the suspect was authorized.
In the decision, Mendonça highlighted the urgent nature of the measure in order to avoid the loss of digital evidence and the seriousness of conduct that could interfere with the investigations of the case.
Messages exchanged between Miranda and Vorcaro mention ways of seeking private information about journalist Malu Gaspar, from the newspaper O Globo, in an attempt to prevent the production of new reports about Banco Master.
When they found nothing that could compromise her, the two considered the option of hiring the journalist with a salary of around R$120,000 and contractual "gloves" - a bonus paid at the time of signing.
Miranda's defense denies irregularities

Regarding the facts widely publicized today, Thiago Miranda's defense comes out to categorically refute the practice of any illegality by his constituent.
Thiago Miranda has always guided his professional activities towards legality, transparency and respect for institutions and the free exercise of freedom of expression, having not committed any criminal act, nor participated in conduct intended to intimidate, coerce, embarrass or violate the rights of third parties. The defense clarifies that the existence of an ongoing investigation does not authorize any early judgment of guilt, and the constitutional guarantees of due legal process, full defense, adversarial proceedings and, above all, the presumption of innocence, must be strictly preserved.
Thiago Miranda is entirely at the disposal of the competent authorities to provide all necessary clarifications, collaborate with the investigation of the facts and demonstrate, in the appropriate forum, the absolute regularity of his conduct. Finally, it informs that the defense will closely monitor all acts of the procedure and will adopt the appropriate legal measures to ensure that the facts are investigated with balance, technique and respect for legal guarantees, avoiding hasty conclusions or interpretations incompatible with reality.
