Vorcaro awaits a change of lawyer to try to unlock a plea bargain
Former banker Daniel Vorcaro seeks to hire a new law firm in an attempt to unlock the articulations around a new plea bargain agreement. The first two proposals were denied by the PF (Federal Police) and the PGR (Attorney General's Office).
The possible movement in the team of lawyers occurs simultaneously with another change of route in the businessman's process. Last Thursday night (25), Vorcaro was transferred to a special cell of the 19th Military Police Battalion of the Federal District, known as "Papudinha".
According to CNN's investigation, the search for new names to take on the case of Master's former owner involves a dispute involving at least three law firms in Brasília. According to information confirmed by people close to the former banker, the objective of the change is to hire renowned criminal experts to unlock negotiations with the authorities.
Currently, the defense is led by lawyer Sérgio Leonardo, who took over the position fully after the departure of another defender. Regarding the impasse in the negotiations in search of the plea bargain, there is a divergence of assessments between the former banker and the authorities.
Daniel Vorcaro reportedly told allies that there is "ill will" on the part of the Federal Police with the documents presented so far and maintains that he intends to gather "more robust" evidence for the new attempt. On the other hand, investigators and PF delegates would have shown skepticism regarding the ability of the person being investigated to present new facts and reiterated that an agreement would only be accepted based on proven information involving authorities in the schemes being investigated.
Faced with this scenario, the PF had expressed discomfort with the prolonged custody of the former banker in its superintendence in the Federal District. According to reports heard by CNN, the unit does not have the structure for long-term detention, which required improvised adaptations of cell rooms and the assistance of federal criminal police officers to reinforce surveillance. There would also be limitations on the provision of meals, laundry and the lack of an appropriate space for Vorcaro to sunbathe.
Vorcaro's transfer to "Papudinha" was authorized by Minister André Mendonça, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The judge based the decision on the fact that staying at the PF facilities was no longer considered appropriate, highlighting that the measure is "absolutely dissociated" from any debate about the existence or not of negotiations for a plea bargain agreement.
In the new prison unit, while looking for a change of lawyers, Vorcaro occupies a special cell intended for authorities or prisoners who, for security reasons, cannot be kept with ordinary inmates. As determined by the STF, the Military Police must adopt measures to prevent him from having contact with other people under investigation in the "Master Case" who are also in the battalion.
