Volvo ends free recharging at charging stations and starts charging brand customers

Volvo announced that charging at its charging stations will now be charged to all users, including owners of the brand's own vehicles. The change comes into force on June 15th this year.

According to a statement sent to customers, the recharge values at charging stations installed and operated by Volvo will follow the rules below:
Quick recharge (DC): R$ 2.90 per kWh;
Slow recharge (AC): R$ 2.00 per kWh.
If the driver Do not remove the vehicle, preventing another user from using the charger, a charge of R$5 per minute will be applied. This rule only applies to fast chargers and only those installed on highways.

Quick charging allows the vehicle to recover most of its energy more quickly. As an example, the Dolphin Mini takes around 30 minutes to go from 30% to 80% charged, while the Volvo EX30 needs the same time to go from 10% to 80% of the battery.
Slow recharging can take more than seven hours, reaching up to 12.5 hours in the case of the Volvo EX30 and around six hours for the Dolphin Mini.

With the change in values, owners of vehicles from other brands start to pay less. Currently, the rate is R$4.00 per kWh, regardless of the type of charger, but this amount is not charged to Volvo vehicles.
From June 15th, drivers of vehicles from other brands will pay 27.5% less for recharging. Volvo owners will no longer have free recharging and will start paying for the service.
The main advantage for Volvo vehicles is no longer free recharging and becomes convenience. Drivers will be able to schedule a charger up to 24 hours in advance and reserve the plug up to 20 minutes before the desired time, in addition to having technology that recognizes the vehicle as soon as it is connected to the charger.
As a result, charging and vehicle identification happen automatically, without the need to use a specific application.
How much will it cost to fully recharge a car?
The cost of recharging varies depending on the battery capacity of each vehicle. According to the previous rule, the owner of the best-selling electric car in Brazil, the Dolphin Mini, needs R$152 to charge the 38 kWh battery. With the new rule, this cost drops to R$ 110.20.
The Volvo EX30 in the previous example, which has a 69 kWh battery, now has to pay R$ 200.1 for a recharge that would previously have been free.
Currently, Brazil has 21,061 public chargers installed, according to the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE). Of this total, 6,479 are fast chargers and 14,582 are slow.
Volvo does not say how many slow chargers it has, but states that there are "more than a thousand". In the case of fast chargers, the brand has 76 units, which represents 1.1% of the entire installed base in Brazil.
