Voepass accident: "Phew, we arrived alive", said pilot on previous flight

Relatives of the 62 people killed in the crash of Voepass flight 2283, in August 2024, met with the Federal Police agents in Campinas responsible for investigating the case, last Tuesday (30), and had access, for the first time, to excerpts from the aircraft's cockpit transcript.

According to CNN Brasil, one of the excerpts that most moved family members was a speech attributed to one of the pilots during a previous flight on the same plane, on the route between São Paulo and Cascavel. After landing, he reportedly said: "Phew, we made it alive."

Another excerpt shown to family members shows a moment in which one of the pilots complains about the functioning of the aircraft system, stating that it "didn't work". The phrase is part of the material extracted from the investigation and was shown during the meeting, but remains confidential.

Presenting the content to relatives was part of a commitment made by the Federal Police so that families would know the main conclusions of the investigation before the public release of the final report.

"There are still some procedures left, but there is confirmation that there will be indictments. The next 30 days will be a key turning point for the completion and forwarding of the investigation to the Federal Public Ministry", said lawyer Luciano Katarinhuk, representative of the Association and assistant prosecutor.

To CNN Brasil, Luciano said that the meeting with the PF was marked by emotion and news about the case, as the investigators presented the technical report of more than 200 pages, with first-hand details, which lead to the conclusion of the investigation almost two years after the tragedy.

According to him, investigations indicate that people, in addition to the commander and co-pilot, should be held criminally responsible.

Also according to CNN's investigation, among those investigated who may be indicted are professionals linked to the aircraft's maintenance, operational dispatchers and other people who participated in the chain of decisions that allowed the plane to take off. The family association also defends the accountability of former company executives.

The Federal Police informed family members that further interviews will still be carried out before the investigation is concluded. As part of the investigations, people who initially gave statements only as declarants will now be heard as investigated.

The forecast presented during the meeting is that the Federal Police's final report will be completed within approximately 30 days. Only after this step will the document be attached to the case file and the defense of those being investigated will have full access to the material.

At the same time, Cenipa (Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center) is also preparing the release of the technical report on the accident. According to family members, the organization informed that the publication should take place this July, although an official date has not yet been confirmed.

CNN Brasil contacted the Federal Police in Campinas for a demonstration about the meeting, but has not yet heard back. The space is open.
