Viviane Araújo opens up about ageist comments at Carnival

Actress Viviane Araújo, 51, opened up, last Wednesday (17), during her participation in the program Sem Censura, on TV Brasil, about how she deals with ageism during Carnival.

Drum queen of the Acadêmicos do Salgueiro samba school, in Rio de Janeiro, for 18 years, the artist revealed that she doesn't usually pay attention to negative comments, since her love for stepping on sacred ground is greater than anything.

"It's annoying, sometimes, it's very annoying, it hurts; But what I try to do is say: 'Wait a minute, one person, two, are saying this, and a million want me here. So I can't give any importance to that. First thing, I don't give any importance. Because if we really look, we'll end up getting sick," he said.

Viviane also said that her love for samba is very great. "The desire I still have to be there is much greater than anything. I don't really know how to measure what I feel when I step onto the avenue."

Still during the conversation, the red and white drum queen reaffirmed the importance of the affection she receives from the public. "What I know is this human warmth, because people talk to me afterwards. Out of nowhere, sometimes, there are people who come out of the box, they don't even care about the parade that's going on, what's going on, but when you come, people want to run out and stay glued there."

Sandra Annenberg, who was also a guest on the program, took the moment to reflect on ageism, that is, discrimination, prejudice or the creation of stereotypes based on a person's age.

"We think that we have to be a reference too. Not that we have to be. I don't want to impose this on ourselves, but we have this role. Whoever appears publicly is a reference. So, if you stay active, and you are active, long live. Please, take us along."

Viviane then agreed: "That's what you said, that's our role there."
