Vini Jr. scores a great goal, but Brazil only draws with Morocco in the World Cup debut

The Brazilian team debuted in the 2026 World Cup only with a 1-1 draw with Morocco, this Saturday (13), at the New York/New Jersey stadium, which received 80,663 fans.

For the main challenge of group C, against the current fourth placed team from the last World Cup, coach Carlo Ancelotti brought surprises to the lineup: Ibañez and Douglas Santos on the flanks, and Igor Thiago commanding the attack alongside Vini and Raphinha.

With the draw in the debut, Brazil added its first and only point, so far, in group C of the World Cup. The Seleção's next opponents, Haiti and Scotland, will play this Saturday, at 10pm (Brasília time), in Boston - follow in REAL TIME.

Igor Thiago misses a chance, and Morocco takes the lead
Despite Morocco's physical dominance and ball possession at the start of the match, it was the Brazilian team that had the first big opportunity.

In the 13th minute, Vini Jr. made a good move on the left side, crossed into the area and found Igor Thiago alone. The center forward, however, missed the ball, missed his header, and missed the chance to open the scoring.

Morocco, on the other side, was relentless. In the 20th minute, Lucas Paquetá missed a pass on the left side of the attack, Mazraoui activated Brahim Díaz, who found a beautiful deep pass between the Brazilian defense duo. At speed, Saibari took advantage of Alisson's exit and, with a dig, opened the score of the match.

With Vini's individuality, Brazil draws
The Moroccan advantage was fair in the context of the game, and the Brazilian team felt the goal conceded. Hakimi, in a run down the right, scared the Brazilians again, finishing with a cross, to the right of the goal.

But Brazil, as always, has its individualities. And Vini Jr., candidate for the protagonist of the World Cup, proved that he is more prepared for the responsibility than he was in 2022.

Bruno Guimarães passed to the Real Madrid striker, who went inside from the baseline, dodging the marker. With the move clear, Vini got his foot in, with a very strong cross finish, without any chance for Bounou: 1 to 1.

In stoppage time of the opening half, in the 46th minute, Lucas Paquetá scared the Moroccans by hitting a volley inside the area. The ball, despite not having come out with much force, bounced dangerously, but Bounou managed to palm it to the side.

Ancelotti returns for the second half with changes
Carlo Ancelotti chose not to take any risks. After half-time, he called on Danilo and Fabinho to replace Ibañez and Casemiro, who had received yellow cards in the initial stage.

When the game resumed, Morocco became less dangerous, far from the impetus shown after the opening whistle. Brazil, however, did not take advantage and showed difficulties in creating chances, with a rigid offensive sector.

The Italian coach then made two more changes: Luiz Henrique and Matheus Cunha replaced Lucas Paquetá and Igor Thiago. Brazil started to have a more mobile and populated attack, despite the more fragile midfield.

Despite the changes, the Seleção didn't get going and only had one more shot on target, from Raphinha, without scaring the goalkeeper. Morocco still created two great opportunities in stoppage time, in the same play, but Alisson saved both.

Next games for the Brazilian team
After the draw in their debut, Brazil returns to the field in group C of the World Cup next Friday (19), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), when they face Haiti in Philadelphia.

The team closes the group stage on June 24, a Wednesday, at 7pm, in Miami.

The other game in the first round of group C will be held this Saturday, at 10pm, between Haiti and Scotland. If the match has a winner, he will be the leader of the group.
