VIDEO: Woman gives birth amid rubble after earthquake in Venezuela
A video republished on social media by the Venezuelan Ministry of Communication shows the moment a woman gives birth after being rescued from the rubble left behind by the earthquakes that hit the country last Wednesday (24).
According to the Venezuelan portal El Pitazo, the birth took place on Thursday (25), in La Guaira, one of the regions most affected by the tremors, after the collapse of a building.
The images show the pregnant woman being treated shortly after being removed from the rubble. Upon arriving at a place considered safe, she went into labor and gave birth.
According to El Pitazo, the service was performed by plastic surgeon María Fernanda Terán. Without adequate resources for an emergency birth, the doctor decided to provide assistance to the woman, being applauded by the people accompanying the rescue for helping to bring a new life into the world in the midst of the tragedy.

The earthquakes that hit Venezuela on Wednesday night have left more than 920 dead and 3,360 injured, according to the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez.
Authorities also reported that at least 172 people are still missing under the rubble.
Rescue teams continue working to locate survivors within the so-called "golden window" for up to 72 hours after the disaster. However, operations face difficulties due to constant aftershocks, unstable terrain and a lack of heavy machinery in some areas.
The Venezuelan government militarized La Guaira, considered the most affected region, and started a task force to distribute food, water and medicine, in addition to evaluating properties that suffered structural damage.
Several countries, including Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, El Salvador and the United States, sent rescue teams or announced humanitarian aid to assist in the operations.
