The offensive, which hit Russian military and infrastructure areas, took place hours before the start of the annual economic forum promoted by Moscow to attract foreign investment, in a clear attempt to embarrass the head of the Kremlin.
One of the targets hit it was a military installation in Kronstadt, on an island close to the city. Kiev released images of drones bombing the naval base (see the video above).
The other location hit was an oil terminal. A video posted on social media shows columns of smoke rising into the air and explosions echoing on the horizon.

On Telegram, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, made a point of highlighting that the chosen targets are "purely" military, a clear response to the accusations being made by Russia of Ukrainian attacks on civilian areas.
This Wednesday, for example, the Russian local government that is administering Donetsk, a region in the east of Ukrainian territory that is controlled by Moscow, accused Kiev of hitting a tourist bus with one of its drones, killing 7 people.
Russia launched an offensive the day before
A day earlier, in the early hours of this Tuesday (2), Russia launched several air strikes against Ukraine.
According to the latest balance updated by the Ukrainian authorities, 22 people died and 138 were injured in the action that hit 38 locations in different parts of the country.
Russian air strikes on several cities in Ukraine leave people dead
It was the third major attack on the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, in less than a month. In Dnipro, the country's fourth largest city, which was also heavily attacked, rescue teams working in the rubble of residential buildings removed the bodies of a 3-year-old child, as well as those of a woman and her 8-year-old son.
Russia said the mega-operation was a response to what it called "terrorist acts" and that the war between the two countries entered "a new paradigm" after Ukrainian armed forces carried out attacks against civilians Russians.
In a statement released hours after the air strikes, which left at least 22 people dead and hit several Ukrainian cities, the Russian Defense Ministry said it had used hypersonic missiles and drones to attack seven regions of Ukraine, hitting sites useful to the Ukrainian armed forces, such as fuel and transport facilities and military airfields.
"During the night, in response to the terrorist acts of the Kiev regime, the armed forces of the Russian Federation carried out a massive attack using weapons. high precision and long range, based on aircraft, land and sea", he detailed.

Among the "terrorist acts" cited by the Kremlin are a drone attack on a student dormitory in Luhansk, a city controlled by Russia in eastern Ukraine, on the 22nd. Russian President Vladimir Putin promised retaliation after the death of 18 people.
This Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry also accused Ukraine of trying to destabilize the Black Sea region with drone attacks, both at sea and in the air, against civilian vessels, attacks that, according to the ministry, Kiev falsely attributed to Russia.
