Video: Traditional "Cheese Race" attracts crowds in England

Spectators and competitors gathered at Cooper's Hill, England, for the traditional Cheese Race, in which participants race down a steep 180-meter slope chasing a slice of Double Gloucester, a traditional English cheese.

The winners are those who reach the bottom of the hill first, as getting the cheese is almost impossible.

This year's competition had an aggravating temperature, which exceeded 30°C, the hottest day in May ever recorded in the region.

The race is notorious for the high risk of injury due to the steep angle of the hill, and competitors are required to recognize that they participate at their own risk.

The unusual event dates back to the 19th century, more specifically the year 1826, but is believed to have started in a pagan festival to mark the arrival of spring.
