Video: See the moment when the Brazilian consulate in NY is emptied

Helder Nozima, an employee at the Brazilian consulate in New York, recorded the moment he left The News Building, after structural columns of a neighboring high-rise building under construction developed problems. The location previously served as Pfizer's headquarters.

Nozima was working in the office on the 32nd floor when employees were ordered to leave the building.

"I heard an announcement over the loudspeakers that the building was being evacuated. The NYPD (New York Police Department) helped us out," said Nozima.

The employee said he would go home and hoped to return to work on Wednesday (8).

Note from the consulate
Earlier, the Brazilian consulate in New York reported that it would be temporarily closed this Tuesday (7) due to the risk of the neighboring building collapsing.

In a note on the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, the Brazilian representation warns that "the Consulate building is temporarily closed due to the evacuation determined by the city authorities, due to the risk of a building collapsing on 42nd Street."

The Consulate stated that more information about the reopening of the building and the resumption of services will be released as soon as possible.
