Two people are shot in a shootout near the White House; suspect died
A journalist from the American broadcaster ABC News had a tremendous scare while recording a report in front of the White House this Saturday (23), when a gunman opened fire on Secret Service agents.
Images released on TV show the moment when Selina Wang hears the shots, realizes that something is wrong, gets down with the team and, after a few seconds, is instructed to leave the place.
"We have to evacuate, they are shooting", a voice is heard shouting in the background of the video.
Two people were shot in the incident. According to a Secret Service statement posted on social media, a person approached the checkpoint at the corner of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, near the White House, pulled a gun from his backpack and began shooting at the officers.

The agents returned fire and shot the suspect. A pedestrian was also hit, but the severity of his injuries was not disclosed nor who was responsible for the shot that hit him.
According to the Reuters news agency, the suspect was identified as a person with emotional disturbances, who already had a "restraint order" issued against him previously.
Journalist Carolina Cimenti, from TV Globo, reported that the first investigations indicate that the shooter fired at least three times before being restrained by the agents. He was presumed dead.

Thank you to our great Secret Service and security forces for the quick and professional action taken this evening against an armed man near the White House, who had a violent history and a possible obsession with our country's most beloved structure. The shooter is dead after an exchange of fire with Secret Service agents near the gates of the White House. This event comes one month after the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner and shows how important it is for all future presidents to obtain what will be the safest and most secure space of its kind ever built in Washington, D.C. Our country's National Security demands it!
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed in a publication that security officials are on alert following reports of shots fired. President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time.

Journalists working there this Saturday reported hearing a series of gunshots and were instructed to seek shelter inside the press briefing room, where US Secret Service agents prevented them from leaving. The blockade was lifted shortly afterwards.
