Video: PRF catches suspect hiding in postal truck box

A man was found hiding inside a box in the cargo compartment of a Correios truck during an action by the PRF (Federal Highway Police), on Wednesday night (8), on BR-153, in Professor Jamil (GO). The suspect and the driver of the vehicle were arrested on suspicion of stealing goods during transportation.

The approach took place at km 554 of the highway, at the municipality's toll plaza, after a risk analysis carried out by the PRF indicated that the truck could have been the target of a criminal action.

The vehicle was driven by a driver from an outsourced company that provides services to the Post Office and had left the capital of São Paulo heading to the state-owned company's Distribution Center in Aparecida de Goiânia.

During the inspection, police officers identified signs of tampering in the cargo compartment. According to the PRF, the original seals had been broken and replaced with adulterated seals, indicating that the trunk had been accessed clandestinely along the route. Agents also found evidence that there were people hidden inside the cargo.

In view of the suspicion, the truck was escorted to a Correios unit in Aparecida de Goiânia, where the cargo was unloaded. During the operation, police officers located the 32-year-old man hiding inside one of the boxes transported in the cargo compartment.

In addition to the suspect found in the trunk, the 27-year-old driver was also arrested for his alleged participation in the scheme. Both were sent to the Federal Police headquarters, in Goiânia, responsible for continuing the investigations.

The transported goods will be checked by the Post Office to identify which objects were eventually stolen and assess the damage caused by the criminal action.
