Video: Landslide in Rocinha closes road after heavy rain in RJ
The main access road to Rocinha, in the south of Rio de Janeiro, was closed on Monday night (15) after a landslide occurred on Estrada da Gávea. The blockade occurred in the region known as Rua 1, close to the Red Gate, at one of the highest points in the community.
Videos released by residents on social media show a large amount of dirt and stones scattered across the track. The sliding material reached a church, commercial establishments and some vehicles that were in the area at the time of the incident. A security camera recorded the moment of the slide.

With the road closure, residents reported difficulties traveling within the community. Traffic was congested and there was an impact on the circulation of vans, motorcycles and buses that serve the region. So far, there are no reports of injuries. The Fire Department reported that it did not receive calls related to the incident.
Until the last update, the road affected by the landslide in Rocinha remained closed.
Data from the Alerta Rio system indicate that the Rocinha meteorological station recorded a peak rainfall of 9.6 millimeters in the afternoon. Information released by CEMADEN-RJ (State Center for Monitoring and Alerting of Natural Disasters) indicates that the locality accumulated 64.6 millimeters of rain in four hours, influenced by more intense precipitation observed in the Tijuca Massif.
The State Secretariat for Civil Defense and the Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro are monitoring the effects of the rains that hit the state. According to the bodies, operational teams remain mobilized to act in possible incidents, with support from vehicles, ambulances, boats, drones and aircraft.
CEMADEN-RJ maintains continuous meteorological monitoring and issues preventive alerts for municipalities and the population. According to the most recent bulletin, the hydrological risk for the capital and the Metropolitan Region of Rio remains moderate, as does the risk of landslides in the municipality.
The weather forecast indicates cloudy to overcast skies and the possibility of light to moderate rain in isolation in the next few hours, mainly in the coastal areas of the state.
