Several Iranian government officials were seen crying during the funeral of former supreme leader Ali Khamenei, in a private ceremony this Friday (3).

Among the authorities who were moved before Khamenei's coffin were the Iranian President, Masoud Peseshkian, the Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad Qalibaf, and the head of the Iranian Judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei. See above.
The funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei began this Friday (3) in the capital Tehran with a private ceremony for Iranian government officials and foreign state leaders.
The rites should continue until next Thursday (9) in other Iranian cities and also in Iraq. Khamenei's wake takes place about four months after his death at age 86, during a joint bombing raid by the United States and Israel. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, took over as Supreme Leader in March.
The farewell began with a private event for Iranian government officials and foreign leaders. No European or American representatives were invited to the funeral.
