A small child was rescued alive this Tuesday (30) from the rubble of a building six days after the earthquakes that devastated Venezuela.

The rescue took place in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, and was carried out by a Jordanian search team. According to Jordan's Directorate of Public Security (DSP), the child is three years old and it took rescuers hours to reach her, who was trapped under the rubble of a house.
"The team worked around the clock for hours to remove the rubble using state-of-the-art specialized equipment, while monitoring the child's vital signs using thermal devices, until they were able to reach and remove her with total professionalism, without causing any harm," the agency said. Search teams from several countries, in addition to the Jordanian one, went to Venezuela to help Venezuelans rescue victims of the 7.5 and 7.2 magnitude earthquakes that devastated the South American country. The Venezuelan government updated on Monday (20) the death toll caused by the earthquakes to 1,719. The number of injured rose to 5,034, and there are 15,866 people displaced, according to President Delcy Rodríguez.
The government also says that 22,619 people received treatment in hospitals for injuries. The balance is provisional and these numbers tend to increase.
A projection by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) of the United Nations (UN) estimated that more than 6 million people may have been affected by the tremors.
The entity also estimates that 50 thousand people may be missing in total.
The most affected places are on the coast of the eastern portion of the country, with La Guaira being the city that suffered the most damage. The disaster region also includes Caracas and Maiquetía, where Simón Bolívar International Airport is located, the country's main gateway, which remains closed until further notice. Other international airports, such as Valencia, have reopened.
