Vanessa da Mata sees new generation embrace old hits: "Role of music"

Singer Vanessa da Mata, 50, has been going through an important moment in her career: while she is full of future projects, her old songs are going viral on social media.

On TikTok, songs like "Boa Sorte", "Ai Ai Ai" and "Amado" became the soundtrack for young people from Generation Z in several publications, which took the artist by surprise. "It's something that makes me very happy, seeing the reach of my songs. And I have a lot of fun with the videos that people publish", she told CNN Brasil.

For Vanessa, seeing her compositions being revived by a new generation brings "immense joy". "This recognition is very gratifying and the result of work done with a lot of love, truth and dedication. For me, this is the role of music, to be heard by everyone!", he declared.

At the beginning of May, the singer surprised the audience of an older generation by making a surprise appearance at the Jonas Brothers' concert in São Paulo. The relationship between the trio and the artist began more than 15 years ago, according to herself.

"I heard, through Jonas Brothers fan clubs and through interviews, that Joe Jonas played some of my songs on guitar and was always a big fan of my work. I had already received other invitations to sing with them, but this time I had the date available and it was beautiful!", he commented.

She continued: "It's incredible to see a new generation sing one of my songs, showing that it remains current and goes through time. When they invited me to participate in the show, I imagined that I would sing a song from their repertoire, but they asked me 'Good Luck'. This shows the power that music has to bring worlds and generations together."

Meeting with Mick Jagger
It wasn't just Joe Jonas who insisted on having a meeting with Vanessa da Mata. In 2025, Mick Jagger, lead singer of the Rolling Stones, went to the Mato Grosso artist's dressing room to exchange a few words.

"About 10 years ago, Paula Lavigne introduced us during a party at her house. We met there, he sat next to me, we talked a lot... and then we never saw each other again. Last year, I performed in London and he went to watch the show. He insisted on going to my dressing room and told me: 'I'm your fan and I couldn't miss my show in my city'", he commented.

"It was a lot of fun and also very impressive, because, for me, he is one of the biggest names in music in the world today. I was very proud to see him in the audience and to welcome him to the dressing room", he continued.

Rock in Rio
Vanessa da Mata is preparing to lead her own show at Rock in Rio for the first time. The artist will sing on the Sunset Stage, on September 7th, on a day to celebrate composers.

"This is very important to me, because I am a composer of my own songs. In fact, many people still don't know that I am the creator of my songs. Before I even released my first album, I already had songs recorded by other artists", she said.

The singer recalled that "A Força Que Nunca Seca", her composition with a melody by Chico César, was recorded by Maria Bethânia, gave the name to her album and was nominated for a Latin Grammy.

"My first album came later, in 2002. I'm a singer, songwriter, producer, writer and painter. And I'm going to take the stage at Rock in Rio, one of the biggest festivals in the world, to celebrate Brazilian music", he continued.

In Cidade do Rock, she will sing songs from the album "Todas Elas", from 2025, as well as classics from her career. "And I will have the joy of welcoming Rubel as a special guest, an extremely talented singer and composer, a highlight of the new generation of Brazilian music, with a very striking strength and sensitivity in his compositions", he assessed.

About her current tour, Vanessa stated that traveling through Brazil is something important and special. "In each city where 'Todas Elas' passes, I bring something new to my repertoire: a song that has a special connection with that place. I like to prepare something designed for each audience, and this means that no two shows are the same. And the butterflies in my stomach always accompany me before going on stage", he assured.

The show is directed by Jorge Farjalla, costumes by Gustavo Silvestre and accessories by Gustavo Krelling. "My director, Farjalla, defines the show as a baroque journey from Saint to Maria Sem Vergonha, moving through several songs to tell the saga of this woman in search of love or facing it, whether in romantic love or self-love, permeating deep Brazil and the popular culture of the songs celebrated during the performance", she assessed.
