Vance says the US is talking to Cuba and calls for changes in the country's policy

The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, stated this Thursday (18) that Washington is in negotiations with the Cuban government and wants Havana to promote changes that could improve relations with the United States.

In responding to a question about President Donald Trump's comments that "Cuba is next," Vance said Secretary of State Marco Rubio should address the issue, but added that the Cuban economic system "didn't work" and that the island's economy was facing serious difficulties.

"In Cuba there's a system that hasn't worked. They can't generate wealth. Frankly, their economy is probably in worse shape than the Iranian economy. The island is only 90 miles from our shores. So every time there's a crisis, we end up seeing desperate refugees or people who can't feed their families trying to come en masse into our country," said the US vice president.

Vance said the United States wants Cubans to be "happy and successful" and is discussing possible changes with Havana. "If they make smart decisions, we will have a much better relationship with the island," he declared.
