Vance praises Iran deal, but says work remains to be done

The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, stated this Sunday (14) that the agreement reached with Iran is "a great moment for the United States of America", although he said that there is still work to be done.

"I'm not going to say everyone is going to sing Kumbaya tomorrow," Vance told Fox News. "It's going to take a little time to learn the ways of peace, but I think we've taken a very, very important step tonight."

Vance said the agreement is based on what he described as three core elements. The first is "the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and, of course, the end of the naval blockade that we had imposed on Iran along with that."

He said the second element is the assurance that Iran will never seek, obtain or purchase a nuclear weapon. The third element, according to him, is compliance with the agreement.

"This only happens, to be clear, if Iran lives up to its promise," Vance said.

The vice president also highlighted the positive economic effects for American consumers, who have faced months of high gasoline prices.

"I think my main message to the American people is 'thank you'. Because of your patience, I believe we have solved the problem that has plagued this country for decades," he said.

Vance said Trump is "certainly very concerned" about high fuel prices, "but what we're going to be able to do is reduce the cost of energy, not just now but in the long term."

However, as CNN reported, even if the Strait of Hormuz reopens, significant damage to the world's energy system has already been done and pre-war prices are unlikely to return any time soon.
