USA x Iran: Negotiations continue, but ceasefire has ended; understand

The ceasefire between the United States and Iran has come to an end, President Donald Trump said this Friday (10), as mediators work to try to get both sides back to the negotiating table.

The statement comes after a series of attacks in recent days, after Tehran struck several vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, where traffic remains low and questions remain about key details of the memorandum of understanding reached by both sides last month.

- Trump stated that the United States agreed to continue negotiations with Iran, but reiterated that Washington informed Tehran that the ceasefire was no longer in effect. The American president did not order new attacks on Thursday (9).
- Iran's main negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said the country is prepared for "total defense" if the United States breaks the agreement. "It is clear that ending the war is a priority for countries around the world. However, everyone must understand that this conflict will never end with Iran's surrender," he declared.
- Qatari negotiators traveled to Iran to meet with the country's officials in an attempt to reduce tension, a diplomat with knowledge of the visit told CNN. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also spoke by phone this afternoon with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Qatar and Pakistan have been important mediators between the conflicting sides.

- The United States' military strategy has been to carry out deliberate attacks and then pause to avoid escalation and allow diplomacy to move forward, an American official told CNN.
- The Trump administration does not want Israel to participate in the fighting due to concerns about losing control of the conflict, according to two Israeli sources. On Thursday, Israel's defense minister stated that the Israel Defense Forces were ready to resume war against Iran again.
- Satellite images obtained by CNN from the company Vantor show signs that Iran may be trying to rebuild its nuclear facilities. The images indicate activity at nuclear sites and missile facilities in late June and early July.
- Russian state nuclear energy company Rosatom has begun sending employees from the Bushehr nuclear plant back to Iran, according to the company's general director. Bushehr is the only Iranian nuclear reactor currently in operation.
- Meanwhile, Trump told The New York Post that he left "instructions" for the United States to respond with overwhelming military force if Iran manages to assassinate him.
