US visa rejection for Brazilians drops in 2025

The percentage of tourist and business visas for Brazilians approved by the United States in 2025 was higher than in the previous year, despite the restriction policies of the Donald Trump government, which affected several countries.
A measure that impacted the process to obtain a tourist visa, for example, was that children under 14 years old and over 79 years old were once again required to undergo a face-to-face interview, to obtain the document, the from October 2025.
The temporary suspension of visa issuance for 75 countries was announced in 2026 and, despite including Brazil, it does not affect tourist visas or other visas in the "non-immigrant" category.
According to the US State Department, last year North Americans denied 14.8% of B1/B2 visa applications (tourism and business) made by Brazilians.
It was a small reduction in compared to 2024, still under Joe Biden's government, when the rejection rate was 15.4%.
In the last ten years, the record number of denials to Brazilians occurred in 2020, marked by the start of the pandemic, when the percentage was 23.1% (see the graph below).

In 2021, still during Trump's first term in the White House, the rate had also increased compared to previous years, reaching 18.4%.
In 2023, also under the Biden administration, the USA denied 11.9% of visa requests to Brazilians - it was the lowest rate in the last ten years.
Restrictions on travelers
The discreet drop in the rejection of Brazilian requests occurred despite Trump's speech and actions to limit the entry of foreigners into the USA.
On the 15th, for example, the American president froze the issuance of immigration visas for 75 countries, including Brazil. The measure, it is worth noting, does not affect Brazilian tourists and business travelers (applicants for B1/B2 visas).
Trump also issued an order in April 2025 requiring tourists from 38 countries, mainly from Africa, Oceania and part of Asia, to pay a deposit of up to US$15,000 for the document to be issued. Brazil, however, is not on the list.
In addition, since June 2025, applicants for US student visas have been required to keep their profiles on social networks open to the public for analysis by US authorities.
The verification seeks to identify "any indication of hostility" against US citizens, institutions or principles.
Last October, minors under 14 and those over 79 were required to undergo a face-to-face interview to obtain a visa, with some exceptions.
The change applies to citizens of all countries. countries that need a visa to enter the USA, including Brazilians.
