US plans to release Iranian assets to repair Gulf damage

The United States will make Iranian assets available to Gulf allies to support reconstruction and repairs of future damage caused by Iran, a source with knowledge of the matter said on Saturday (6).

The US will also consider using these assets to finance repairs for damage already done in the past, the source added. According to her, the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, Scott Bessent, instructed a team to assess the costs of the damage already caused by Iran to allied countries in the Gulf.

Reaction to attacks against Kuwait and Bahrain

Gulf countries condemned Iran's attacks against Kuwait and Bahrain on Friday (5), saying this could threaten the security of the region.

The United Arab Emirates, which has faced repeated Iranian attacks since the start of the war in February, said it strongly condemned Tehran's attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain.

The attacks constitute a "blatant violation" of the two countries' sovereignty and a threat to their security, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Egypt classified Iran's actions as a "dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the Gulf region and the entire region." The country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its support for "all measures" taken by Kuwait and Bahrain to "protect their territories and vital facilities."

Saudi Arabia called Iran's latest attacks "a threat to regional and international security" and said the attacks were pushing the region toward "tension and instability."

Qatar joined the wave of condemnations, emphasizing the need to "spare it the repercussions of these unjustified attacks and work towards de-escalation in order to restore regional and international security and stability."

In classifying Iran's attacks as "brutal", Jordan affirmed "absolute solidarity with the sister Kingdom of Bahrain and the sister State of Kuwait in the face of Iranian aggression".

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense reported that it "detected and neutralized" seven ballistic missiles within Kuwaiti airspace at dawn. "They were intercepted over several residential areas, resulting in some debris falling," the ministry said.

The offensive, which was blamed on Iran, resulted in material damage but no casualties, according to the ministry.
