US military chief makes unprecedented visit to Venezuela, without Delcy Rodríguez

The chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, visited Caracas, capital of Venezuela, on Wednesday (3) for talks with senior interim government officials on regional security, his office said in a statement.

The first official visit of the top US military official to Venezuela focused on national stability and the role of the US Armed Forces in implementing a three-phase plan presented by President Donald Trump.

The visit took place at a time when the interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, is out of the country. She touched down in New Delhi on Wednesday for a five-day trip to India, the second-largest importer of Venezuelan oil in May after the United States.

The U.S. Embassy in Caracas and Venezuela's Ministry of Communications, responsible for all press inquiries on behalf of the government, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
