US-Iran deal will establish 60 days for "technical" negotiations, source says

The memorandum of understanding being negotiated between the United States and Iran stipulates that, if signed, it will begin a 60-day period for "technical" negotiations, a senior official in Donald Trump's administration said this Friday (12).

While the document outlines a series of essential commitments that Iran must accept, the highly technical negotiations will focus on how to implement and execute these points specifically, the source said.

Points of the memorandum include the dismantling of Iran's nuclear program, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the US destruction of Iranian enriched material.

The issue of economic relief for Iran has been one of the main points of impasse in negotiations between the two countries. Another source insisted that any easing will only occur after the Middle Eastern country takes concrete steps to comply with the agreement.

"The Iranians receive nothing at the time of signing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) nor during the negotiation itself," the official said.
