US citizen in DR Congo tests positive for Ebola, agency says

A US citizen working for a humanitarian organization in the Democratic Republic of Congo has tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola virus, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Friday (10).

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is working with the patient's employing organization, other federal agencies and partners in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to help prevent new transmissions and identify high-risk contacts, it said.

The number of confirmed cases in the country rose to 1,830, including 648 deaths, according to government data released late this Friday.

This number reflects the total number of confirmed cases up to Thursday, according to a situation report published by the Ministry of Communication, which recorded cases occurring in the previous 24 hours.
