US attacked Iranian air defenses and drone bases, official says

The most recent US strikes in Iran targeted Iranian air defense systems, coastal surveillance systems, surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship cruise missiles and drone launch sites, a US official told Reuters on Tuesday (7), speaking on condition of anonymity.

CENTCOM (US Central Command) had announced the new attacks earlier on Tuesday, but did not provide details about the targets.

Central Command said the operation was a response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The US Army also accused Tehran of violating the ceasefire with "unjustified" aggression.

An American official told CNN that the attacks were "not proportionate."

"This is a punishment [...] It won't end anytime soon," said the official.
