US and Iran: Pakistan says progress made in talks

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Sunday (24) that "significant progress" had been made in negotiations between the United States and Iran, offering reasons for optimism that a positive and lasting outcome was within reach.

Earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated US President Donald Trump for what he described as "extraordinary efforts" to pursue peace, adding that Pakistan remains committed to continuing negotiations and hopes to host the next round soon.

"Today's important phone call, led by President Donald J. Trump with the leaders of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, marks a significant step closer towards the shared goal of regional peace, stability and an early diplomatic outcome, 'InshaAllah'.

We commend President Trump's leadership and commitment to dialogue and diplomacy, alongside Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the entire U.S. team, whose continued engagement has helped achieve significant progress in ongoing negotiations.

We appreciate and are grateful for the constructive engagement of the Iranian leadership, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in support of advancing these peace efforts.

I also extend sincere appreciation to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, our fraternal regional partners and all other countries with whom I have maintained close engagement throughout this entire process since 28 February, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt (Chancellor Badr Abdelatty), Qatar and others, whose constructive engagement and support contributed significantly to this final outcome.

I particularly commend the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to peace, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who has played a central role throughout this sensitive process and also represented Pakistan in today's discussions. I also acknowledge the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan for its continued diplomatic engagement and continued support throughout these efforts.

Pakistan remains firmly committed to supporting all sincere efforts aimed at lasting peace, mutual respect and regional stability. The achievements of these negotiations provide grounds for optimism that a positive and lasting outcome is within reach, 'InshaAllah'.
