The level of the Uruguay River in São Borja, in Rio Grande do Sul, reached the flood level this Thursday (2). According to the latest bulletin released by the SGB (Brazilian Geological Survey), the river reached the 9 meter mark at 8:45 am.

According to the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul, a family had to leave their home and a commercial establishment was vacated. Two other people are homeless in the municipality. There are no reports of other damages to date.

The Civil Defense alert for the risk of flooding in São Borja is valid until 5:30 pm this Thursday. The advice is that, in case of emergency, residents call 190 or 193.

The SGB forecast points to stabilization in the next few hours and a decline in Uruguay River levels in the short term. However, the tendency is for the level to rise again in the coming days.

In Porto Alegre, the municipal Civil Defense reported that it is also on alert about the possibility of a rise in the level of Lake Guaíba in the coming days due to the large volume of rain in the Northern Region of the State. The agency issued a preventive hydrological warning, effective until Sunday (5), to monitor the level of the Guaíba.

"At this moment, there is no indication of flooding, but the scenario requires continuous monitoring due to the rains recorded in the river basins that contribute to the lake", said the Civil Defense of Porto Alegre in a note.

Attention is mainly focused on the riverside regions of the Islands, the South Zone and the Far South, which may first feel the effects of rising levels.

Rain causes damage in the interior
