The Rio de Janeiro bus workers' strike will continue until at least next Monday (6). The decision was taken by the category after the conciliation hearing held this Tuesday (30) at TRT-1 (Regional Labor Court of the 1st Region) ended without a new proposal presented by the employers' union.

According to the leadership of the Bus Workers Union, representatives of the bus companies did not present a new offer during the meeting.

In view of this, the judge responsible for the case suspended the hearing and set a deadline of 11 am on Monday (6) for the employer sector to present a proposal considered viable by the union, which will be submitted to the category for evaluation in an assembly.

After the hearing, the workers voted to maintain the state of strike. A new assembly is scheduled for Monday afternoon, in Rocha Miranda, in the North Zone of Rio, when the category will decide the next steps of the movement.

Despite the strike, an injunction from the Labor Court determined that the union and companies keep at least 50% of the bus fleet in circulation during the strike. Failure to comply with the decision may result in a daily fine of R$50,000.

According to a report released by Rio Ônibus in the early afternoon of this Tuesday, around 1,500 buses circulated through the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

In a statement, the employers' union reported that there were new reports of vandalism against buses during the strike. Just this Tuesday morning, three vehicles were vandalized, bringing to around 50 the number of buses damaged since the start of the strike.

CNN Brasil attempted to contact TRT-1 and the MPT (Public Ministry of Labor) and is awaiting feedback.

Understand the strike
The strike began at midnight on Monday (29) after the failure of negotiations over the category's salary campaign. Without consensus between workers and companies, road workers decided to start the wall movement while demanding improvements in working conditions and salary adjustments.
