Unfolds 2.0: workers have already requested R$3.88 billion from the FGTS to reduce debts
Around 3.3 million workers have already authorized financial institutions to consult their balance in the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) to reduce R$3.88 billion in debt within Desenrola 2.0 - a program to reduce the debt of the Brazilian population.
Authorizing the financial institution to consult the balance does not necessarily mean that negotiations will be carried out using the FGTS. request, 94.3% opted for the birthday withdrawal, with 86.9% having active advance payments.
These requests are still being evaluated by Caixa Econômica Federal. The deadline for applications opened on May 25th.
By June 12th, according to the Ministry of Labor, the release of R$ 10 million was approved, referring to 17.1 thousand operations.
The amounts will be transferred to the banks with which the debt will be written off on June 25th.
According to the rules of the program, people can use up to 20% of the available FGTS balance, or up to R$ 1 thousand (whichever is greater), to pay debts. The estimate is that up to R$8.2 billion will be released to workers.
To ensure that the resources will actually be used to pay off debts, Caixa transfers the FGTS money directly to the bank where the worker has debts.
Now on g1
Since the end of May, workers can now check their FGTS balance to use it in Novo Desenrola. This is the first step towards using resources to reduce bank debts.
How it works
The worker consults his balance and authorizes the bank to which he owes money to obtain the value of the balance available for negotiation.
Then, he negotiates with the debtor bank the discounted value of the debt at the financial institution itself.
After consulting the balance, banks and other financial institutions will have an estimated period of up to 30 days to formalize the contracts and register the information in the Caixa Econômica systems Federal.
Once validation is complete, Caixa will transfer FGTS resources directly to the creditor institution.

Launched in May, the program provides for debt renegotiation, with discounts, and exchange for a cheaper debt, targeting Brazilians earning up to five minimum wages, i.e. R$ 8,105.
In it, debts contracted until January 31, 2026 that are overdue between 90 days and 2 years are renegotiated, with credit cards, special checks and personal credit (CDC).
➡ Interest is a maximum of 1.99% per month, with discounts of 30% to 90% on the principal amount of the debt. Discounts will vary depending on the credit line and term. A calculator will be made available for workers to know the discount.
➡The government is using a fund with public resources to offer guarantees to financial institutions, that is, the Union's money will cover any default by credit borrowers. R$5.7 billion had been transferred by the end of May, but the operation is being investigated by the Federal Audit Court (TCU).
Balance sheet released at the beginning of June shows that R$20 billion had been renegotiated, up to that point. 1.4 million renegotiations had been carried out, with the average discount being 85% of the original debt value. As a result, the debt fell from R$20 billion to R$2.7 billion.
