Unemployment stands at 5.6% in the quarter up to May, the lowest rate for the period, says IBGE

The unemployment rate was 5.6% in the quarter ending in May 2026, according to the Continuous PNAD released this Friday (26) by IBGE.
The index represents stability compared to the quarter ended in February this year, when it was 5.8%. In comparison with the same period last year, however, there was a drop of 0.6 percentage points, when it was 6.2%.

In the quarter ending in May, Brazil had 6.1 million unemployed people. The number represents stability in relation to the previous quarter, ended in February (6.2 million).
Compared to the same period in 2025, there was a drop of 9.3%, equivalent to 624 thousand fewer people looking for work.
