The Corinthians Deliberative Council will hold a new decisive session this Monday (1st) for the club's political direction. On the agenda is the consideration of the request for the exclusion of former president Augusto Melo from the membership, a measure that, if approved, will increase the sequence of dismissals involving former directors of the institution in a short space of time.
The analysis takes place just over two years after Augusto assumed the presidency of Timão and is directly related to the events recorded on May 31, 2025, when the then-removed manager tried to resume command of the club at Parque São Jorge. The episode mobilized allies, generated internal tension and deepened the political crisis that was already unfolding behind the scenes in Corinthians.

The move constituted an attempt to disregard the effects of the impeachment process that had removed Augusto from the presidency days before. On the occasion, counselor Maria Angela de Sousa Ocampos announced that she had assumed the presidency of the Deliberative Council and declared invalid decisions taken by the then president of the body Romeu Tuma Júnior, including the vote that resulted in the director's removal.
Based on this interpretation, Augusto Melo and his supporters argued that the impeachment was no longer valid and that he would be able to return to office. However, the initiative was not recognized by the management that led the club at that time. Osmar Stabile, then interim president, refused to step down and reaffirmed the legitimacy of the succession that occurred after his predecessor's removal.
The episode ended with no change in Corinthians command, but triggered new internal procedures. In addition to Augusto Melo, other counselors involved in the action will be judged this Monday. Among them are Maria Angela de Sousa Ocampos, 1st secretary of the Council, and the members of the Ethics and Discipline Committee Mario Mello Junior, Paulo Juricic and Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé.
Central do Timão had access to the opinions prepared by the Ethics Committee in the processes relating to each of the cases investigated. In all situations, the body recommended the application of the penalty of dismissal of those involved. The accused have already appealed to the Deliberative Council, which is expected to consider the requests and deliver its decision on Monday night.
The investigations involving Augusto Melo go beyond internal administrative disputes. The former president was the target of impeachment proceedings motivated by alleged irregularities in the sponsorship contract signed with the bookmaker VaideBet, in addition to questions linked to the General Sports Law and the club's statutes. At the same time, he faces charges of criminal association, money laundering and theft.
The Deliberative Council also plans a new session next week to analyze the situation of other associates and advisors identified as participants in the events of May 2025. Among the names that should be evaluated are Carlos Eduardo Melo Silva, Rodrigo Simonini Gonzalez, Wanderson Contrera Salles, Marcos Coelho Abdo, Paulo Rogerio Pinheiro Junior, Laercio Ferreira Victoria, Leandro Olmedila and Peterson Ruan.
Internal investigations identified, through images from the club's monitoring system, the presence of approximately 50 people in the presidency area during the attempt to regain power. In addition to the aforementioned counselors, some associates also participated in the mobilization.
The institutional crisis also had consequences for other former presidents of Corinthians. Last week, Andrés Sanchez was excluded from the club's membership by decision of the Deliberative Council, in a process related to the considered irregular use of the corporate card for private expenses. Days later, Duilio Monteiro Alves announced his renunciation of the title of redeemed partner and left the positions he held as a life advisor and member of the Guidance Council before the conclusion of the trial of his case.
This Monday's vote is yet another development of one of Corinthians' periods of greatest recent political instability, marked by power struggles, disciplinary proceedings, criticism of the club's administrative management and the advancement of legal measures that keep open the possibility of an intervention in black and white management.
