UFPE opens Museum of Exact Sciences with laboratories open to the public

The Federal University of Pernambuco, an institution linked to the Ministry of Education, inaugurated +C - Museum of Exact Sciences in May.

Located in the Center for Exact and Natural Sciences, the new cultural and scientific equipment's main difference is the open-door laboratory model, which allows visitors to follow real research in real time. The space is open from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm, with free entry.

Demystification of science
The strategic objective of the complex is the demystification of science and the encouragement of new academic vocations.

At scheduled times, the public has the opportunity to enter the institution's laboratories to observe the work of researchers, master's students, doctoral students and scientific initiation students, understanding in practice how theory is transformed into real projects.

Scientific immersion
Planned to promote interactivity and overcome passive observation, the museum takes advantage of the university architecture itself, integrating the Center's various departments.

The structure has a planetarium, interactive experiment benches and information panels distributed from the entrance hall to the open areas.

In addition, the complex has an auditorium and an external courtyard for conversation and cultural mediation, both named after the renowned Pernambuco chemist Ricardo Ferreira. The project is the result of the mobilization of professor Antônio Carlos Pavão, a national and international reference in scientific dissemination and manager of Espaço Ciência for three decades.

When to visit?
The museum is divided into two access modes. Spontaneous visits for the general public take place from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm, with free access to open areas and panels.

Attendance at schools and excursions requires prior scheduling, using the university's institutional form, to guarantee the monitoring of mediators during the activities.
