Uber lays off 23% of its HR and recruitment team

Uber is laying off 23% of employees in the human resources and recruitment areas, according to information from the Bloomberg agency. According to the company, the layoffs represent less than 1% of the total workforce.
In a memo sent to employees, the company's CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, stated that the changes are necessary to "maximize the effectiveness of the People team and the enormous potential we have ahead of us", according to the North American CNBC.
The company said the cuts are not related to investments in artificial intelligence, a spokesperson told Bloomberg.
In recent months, other technology companies, such as Meta (owner of Facebook and Instagram) and Oracle, have also carried out mass layoffs while expanding investments in AI.

G1 reached out to Uber to find out if the company's employees in Brazil were affected and is awaiting feedback.
In a statement to the impacted teams, Jill Hazelbaker, promoted last month to the position of president and director of corporate affairs, stated that the layoffs aim to build a "more connected, modern and operationally excellent."
Bloomberg also reported that some HR employees who had been authorized to work remotely have been warned that they will need to return to the hybrid model, with presence in the office three days a week.
