Tyson Foods will have a new CEO starting in October
American Tyson Foods announced this Wednesday (28) that Jeff Schomburger will be the company's new president and chief executive officer (CEO) from October 4th. He will replace Donnie King, who ends a 43-year career with the company.
According to the company, the transition process will begin in July. Currently a member of the Tyson Foods Board of Directors since 2016, Schomburger has also served as the board's leading independent director since 2025.
The change in command comes at a time of pressure for Tyson. The company is facing difficulties mainly in its beef division, affected by the historic reduction of the North American herd.
In recent years, prolonged droughts in producing regions of the United States have reduced the availability of livestock, increasing raw material costs for slaughterhouses. With a lower supply of animals, companies in the sector began to operate with pressured margins and increased consumer prices.
Tyson Foods also announced restructuring measures, including unit closures and layoffs, amid losses recorded in the beef segment.
The sector still faces political pressure in the United States due to rising meat prices in supermarkets.
Prior to his appointment, Schomburger spent 35 years at Procter & Gamble, where he held commercial leadership roles until retiring in 2019 as global sales director.
According to the statement released by the company, Schomburger participated in different committees of the Tyson Foods board, including compensation, audit and strategy and acquisitions. Since 2021, he has chaired the strategy and acquisitions committee.
Donnie King will remain on the Board of Directors after stepping down as CEO, which he assumed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tyson Foods also reported that it maintains its previously released financial projections for the 2026 fiscal year and will remain focused on its long-term growth and cash generation strategy.
