A section of a viaduct being demolished in Seoul, capital of South Korea, collapsed this Tuesday (26). Two people were killed and four others were injured.
Television footage showed emergency crews carrying out search and rescue operations as a long segment of the structure remained collapsed onto the street below, near a railway crossing in central Seoul.
Workers had detected signs of instability in the structure overnight and suspended demolition on Tuesday morning for a safety inspection, a Seoul city hall official said.
The section collapsed while safety inspectors were inside the structure. support, the official added.
The viaduct, built in 1966, was being demolished due to safety defects in the aging structure, according to him.
