Two people were shot in a confrontation with the United States Secret Service near the White House this Saturday (23). The information was provided by the Reuters agency. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed in a publication that security authorities are on alert following reports of shots fired.
Journalist Carolina Cimenti, from TV Globo, reported that the first investigations indicate that a man approached one of the gates of the White House and fired at least three times. One of the injured would be the shooter himself. According to the Associated Press, he is in "critical condition".
The incident occurred near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street and the area was placed under lockdown by armed agents. The circumstances surrounding the incident are not clear, but, to news agencies, officials said it was a person with "emotional disturbances".

Journalists working there this Saturday reported hearing a series of gunshots and were instructed to seek shelter inside the press briefing room, where US Secret Service agents prevented them from leaving. The lockdown was lifted shortly afterwards.
