Two people are shot in a shootout near the White House; suspect died
Two people were shot in a confrontation with the United States Secret Service near the White House this Saturday (23). Journalist Carolina Cimenti, from TV Globo, reported that the first investigations indicate that a man approached one of the White House gates and fired at least three times. One of the injured would be the shooter himself, who was presumed dead.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street and the region was placed under blockade by armed agents. The circumstances surrounding the incident are not clear, but, according to news agencies, officials said it was a person with "emotional disturbances".
There is still no information about the other person affected who was passing by the scene. The identities of those involved were not disclosed.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed in a publication that security authorities are on alert following reports of shots fired. President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time.
