Türkiye scores late and beats the United States in the World Cup

Turkey beat the United States 3-2 this Thursday (26), in Los Angeles, in the third round of Group D of the 2026 World Cup.

Eliminated since the second round, Turkey scored the first three points in the competition. The United States, qualified in advance for the knockout stages, ended the group stage at the top of the group, with six points.

The match
The United States team needed just two minutes to open the scoring. Berhalter took a corner kick at the feet of Trusty, who dominated and crossed the ball, giving goalkeeper Çakir no chance.

Türkiye's response came after nine minutes. Yılmaz advanced down the right and found Arda Güler on the edge of the box. The midfielder finished into the back of the net and left everything the same in Los Angeles.

The North Americans scored again in the 29th minute, in another set piece. However, the goal was disallowed for offside.

Shortly afterwards, Turkey turned the score around. Elmalı was launched from the left, reached the baseline and crossed for Kökçü to score.

The United States equalized three minutes into the second half. After a throw-in, the Turkish defense tried to clear it, but Berhalter was left on the edge of the area, who hit the ball.

When the US fans were already celebrating the draw in the stands, Ayhan scored the goal and declared the Turkish victory 3-2.

Second phase
The United States will face Bosnia next Wednesday (July 1st), at 9pm (Brasília time), at the São Francisco Stadium.
