Trump will discuss missiles and Iranian-allied groups with Gulf countries

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Wednesday (17), during the G7 meeting in France, that the United States, in an effort parallel to the negotiations for an agreement with Iran, will discuss Iranian ballistic missiles and groups allied with Tehran classified as terrorist with the Gulf countries.

At a press conference, Trump said that Syria's leader would like to attack Hezbollah, a group supported by Iran, with "precision" actions inside Lebanon.

The president also stated that the Lebanese leader is expected to visit Washington in the coming weeks.

Constant criticism of Israel
Trump stated that he wants Israel to act with "common sense" in its military campaign against Lebanon, although he continues to support the country's right to "defend itself".

"No, I want Israel to be able to protect itself, but I also want it to use common sense," the American president told reporters during a bilateral meeting at the G7 summit.

Trump has repeatedly demonstrated frustration with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli military campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon. On Tuesday (16), the president told reporters that Netanyahu needed to be "more responsible".

In recent times, Trump has also criticized Netanyahu for considering that the Israeli leader has hampered negotiations between the United States and Iran by ordering attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Iran has insisted that any ceasefire agreement must include Lebanon.

Netanyahu, in turn, has sought to avoid public confrontations with Trump. Commenting on the agreement between the United States and Iran on Monday (15), he declared: "There are situations in which President Trump and I do not fully agree. (...) I am responsible for Israel's security interests, and this needs to be done wisely."
