Trump tripped up María Corina Machado again, preventing her from returning to Venezuela

María Corina Machado was tripped up again by Donald Trump: the opposition leader was prevented by the American government from returning to Venezuela, following the earthquakes that two weeks ago killed at least 3,500 people and destroyed the Caribbean nation.

Aligned with the interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, out of pure interest, the American government found the opponent's presence in the country counterproductive and opportunistic and aborted the takeoff of the private plane that would take her to Curaçao, from where she would cross, by sea, the route back to her country.
"Adding sensitive political issues to this situation at this time is counterproductive to our relief efforts after this tragedy", justified a State Department official.
The decision exposes and once again weakens Machado, who last December, with the help of the USA, took the opposite route to escape Venezuela, where he was hiding, to reach Oslo. The Nobel Peace Prize barely warmed up in her hands, and she promptly offered it to Trump, obsessed with the award.

If she thought she would be rewarded for the unusual gesture and, thus, strengthen her ties with him, María Corina was wrong. The American president encourages flattery, but does not usually respect those who are subservient.
When, in January, he captured Nicolás Maduro and deposed him from office, Trump made it clear that it was not the time for Machado to assume power in Venezuela. "She does not have the support or respect within her own country", he attested, delegating command to the vice-president, although under her strict supervision. In other words, a submissive Chavista government would ensure the country's stability and would be more beneficial to US interests.
The earthquake disrupted Trump's plans and gave the opposition leader another opportunity to interrupt her exile and step back onto Venezuelan soil. Without a valid passport, she blamed Caracas for preventing her return.
But the American government was behind the ban, frustrating Machado's attempts to return to Venezuela, classified by the White House as "grotesque political opportunism." It was a clear indication that she was once again ignored by President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio and that she will not receive US help. With allies of this stature, María Corina Machado does not need enemies.
