Trump threatens to attack Iran if Tehran tries to assassinate him
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated in the early hours of this Saturday (11) that he ordered the Armed Forces to be prepared to launch attacks against Iran if the Iranian government carries out or attempts to carry out an attack to assassinate him.
In a post on the Truth Social network, Trump claims that American missiles are aimed at Iran, "ready to be fired immediately".
"A thousand missiles are armed, ready for launch and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of others ready to be fired immediately, should the Iranian government carry out its threat, made in various parts of the world, to assassinate or attempt to assassinate the current president of the United States of America - in this case, ME!", wrote the American leader.
Still in the publication, Trump says that "the U.S. Armed Forces are ready, willing and able, for a period of one year, subject to extension, to completely devastate and destroy all areas of Iran."
As shown by CNN, Israel shared intelligence with the United States indicating that Iran had recently developed a new plan to assassinate Trump, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
One of the sources stated that the alert was received this week. Another source said the US had been receiving a steady stream of information in recent weeks about possible plans to assassinate Trump, but Israel's warning was new and concerned a specific plot.
Other American officials have suggested that the Israeli report could be an attempt to influence Trump's decision-making as he weighs whether to step up American military action against Iran.
The details of the plot alleged by Israel were not immediately clear, and two sources familiar with the matter said the US had not yet independently verified the information.
The American government has long warned that Iran may try to kill Trump in retaliation for the drone strike ordered by him in 2020, which resulted in the death of a top Iranian general, Qasem Soleimani.
