US President Donald Trump said Saturday that US and Iranian negotiators are "getting much closer" to finalizing a deal to end the war, according to an interview with CBS News.

He said a final deal will prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and ensure that Iran's enriched uranium is "treated satisfactorily," according to CBS.

"I will only sign a deal if we get everything we want," Trump said.

Iran, the United States and mediator Pakistan said this Saturday (23) that progress had been made in negotiations to end almost three months of war.

Trump said he will discuss the latest draft agreement with aides this Saturday, and that he may make a decision on whether to resume the war on Sunday, he told Axios in a separate interview.

Trump has wavered between the two poles of diplomacy and military strike since a ceasefire was declared six weeks ago to allow the sides to reach an agreement on Iran's nuclear program and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil and gas supply route now controlled by Tehran.

Trump described the chances of reaching a deal with Iran as "a solid 50-50" in a phone interview with Axios.

The president also stated that the outcome could lead to a "good" agreement or result in the US deciding to "blow them to hell."

According to Axios, Trump said the meeting will feature special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner to review Iran's latest response, while Vice President JD Vance is also expected to participate in the discussions.

Trump is expected to remain in Washington throughout the weekend after canceling a planned trip to his golf club in New Jersey.

The president also stated that he will not be able to attend the wedding of his son, Donald Trump Jr., citing "government-related circumstances and my love for the United States of America."
