Trump says he can stop Israel's attacks on Lebanon: "They do what I say"

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated in an interview released this Friday (19) that he can prevent Israel from attacking Lebanon.

When asked by Axios reporter Marc Caputo whether he would be able to stop Israeli offensives, Trump replied: "Yes, I am."

"They respect me a lot and do what I say," he added.

Trump's comments came before Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire after one of the deadliest days of the conflict.

Israeli attacks killed at least 47 people in Lebanon this Friday, according to the Lebanese government, making it the second deadliest day since the fighting began.

In addition, in a telephone interview with NBC News also this Friday, the US leader stated that he asked Israel to support the ceasefire with Hezbollah.

He revealed that he spoke to Israeli representatives on Friday morning and encouraged them to agree to a pause in hostilities, but declined to say whether he had spoken directly to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Referring to the memorandum of understanding signed by the United States and Iran to end the war, Trump highlighted: "It's positive. It's the icing on the cake."

Trump also praised his relationship with Netanyahu.

"I've always gotten along well with Bibi. Sometimes you have to stay calm and use your head," he said, using the prime minister's nickname.
