Trump says blockade on Iran will continue until deal is signed

President Donald Trump said the United States will not "rush into a deal" with Iran, adding that the American blockade of Iranian ports will remain in "full force and effect" until an understanding is reached.

"Negotiations are progressing in an orderly and constructive manner, and I have informed my representatives not to rush into an agreement as time is on our side," Trump wrote in a social media post on Sunday morning (24).

"Both sides need to take their time and do this correctly. There can be no mistakes! Our relationship with Iran is becoming much more professional and productive."

Trump reiterated that Iran needs to understand "that it cannot develop or obtain a nuclear weapon or bomb."

The statement comes a day after Trump said that an agreement between the United States and Iran had been "largely negotiated" and that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened, signaling possible progress towards an end to the months-long war.

On Saturday, Trump added that final details were still being ironed out but would be announced "soon."
