The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Thursday (18), in a post on the social network Truth Social, that Apple has agreed to work with Intel to design and manufacture chips in North American territory.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Intel and Apple reached a preliminary agreement to manufacture some chips after more than one year of negotiations. Apple and Intel have not yet commented on Trump's statement.
The partnership helps Apple diversify its chip production chain. The iPhone maker currently relies heavily on TSMC, whose most advanced manufacturing lines face high demand from artificial intelligence companies such as Nvidia and AMD.
For Intel, a contract with Apple would ensure steady demand from one of the world's largest consumer electronics companies. The deal could also strengthen the company's reputation and boost its chip manufacturing business, which has lost ground to TSMC in recent years.
