Trump's "imperial presidency" worries, says professor Eduardo Mello

Donald Trump's "imperial presidency" in the United States is worrying, as the growing concentration of power in the White House could affect civil, political and individual freedoms.

The assessment was made by professor of International Relations at FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas) Eduardo Mello during his participation in the WW Special: The 250 years of US independence - End of the revolution?, which aired this Sunday (5; watch).

"There is an idea in the United States that power, gradually, since the promulgation of the Constitution, is gradually leaving Congress and heading towards the White House", stated the FGV professor.

"But what worries us, and I think we need to separate it because it is what is at issue now, is whether this strengthening turns into authoritarianism and whether the president's role allows him to violate people's political and individual freedoms," he added.
