Trump on succession: 'Vance and Rubio running together would be unbeatable'

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, spoke for the first time about his possible successors in the White House this Wednesday (3).

In an interview with a podcast, the Republican, who is serving his second term as president and will have to leave office in January 2029, said that a ticket with his vice president, J.D. Vance, and his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, would be unbeatable.
"Vance and Rubio running together, as a team, would be unbeatable," he said.
The names of both are already highlighted as two big favorites to run in the next presidential elections within the Republican Party.
Although Vance is the most natural choice for succession, Rubio's prestige has been growing rapidly in recent times.
In April, the American vice president collected a series of failures: he was unable to help boost the campaign of former deputy prime minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán, left empty-handed in a round of negotiations with Iran in Pakistan and failed to help Trump overcome a controversy with Pope Leo XIV.
At the time, a CNN data analysis revealed that he is the least popular vice president, when compared to his predecessors in the same period term.
In the annual survey carried out among participants at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), at the end of March in Dallas, Vance still remains ahead as Trump's successor, with 53% support, but 6 points less than the 2024 survey.
Rubio, who was not even mentioned in the last survey, garnered 35% support.
